Olympic Fever

Okay – I admit it … I could stay at home the entire next two weeks and happily just watch Olympics.  I was telling my husband I really like the Olympics because it combines two of my favorite things: sports and history.  As well as the personal interest stories.  Probably it is a good thing for my family that there are other things planned over the course of the next two weeks so that I am not permanently absorbed into the couch.  Need motivation to leave your house?  Here are some good options …

Christ’s Place Church is having Mega Camp this week, nightly from 6:30-8:30.  You can sign your elementary child up to have a fun experience in the area of their choosing (soccer, cooking, art, duct tape creations, etc.) for only $5 per child.  You can sign up online: http://cplace.org/cpkids/events/ (Due to lots of driving back and forth to camp last week, our family is going to have to pass on this great event.  Really – it’s not because I am at home watching the Olympics.  Really … )

This Thursday our MOPs playdate is at Lost in Fun.  Tina got us a GREAT room rate, as well as our own room to stash stuff or to break away from the craziness!  There is NO time limit…stay all day if you want.  Bring a lunch (we can bring sack lunches since we will have our own room) or order off their menu.  You can also leave and come back.  1 and under are FREE!  2-5years $4.00  6 years and up $5.00  If you are planning on coming this week, PLEASE let us know ASAP – will be calling in SOON with a final count.   The reservation was made by Tina B. – you may need to tell them that when you pay.  (Note: evidently she had gotten us a great rate for the zoo too – I missed that.  My sincere apologies that you had to pay regular prices – occasionally I miss a few important details!)

Next Thursday August 9th  is our LAST summer playdate and our annual MOPs trip to Memorial Stadium for a 10:00 a.m. tour.  WE HAVE TO MAKE A RESERVATION A WEEK IN ADVANCE FOR THIS ONE!  So if you are wanting to show your Husker spirit, sign up and come.   Please let us know by this Wednesday August 1st if you are coming – also note if you are bringing a stroller.

Please e-mail firstfreemops@gmail.com with your field trip reservations TODAY (or tomorrow 🙂  Not get the message in time?  Please check with one of the MOPS moms on leadership – we can possibly squeeze you in.

Since we have come to the end of our planned summer activities, there may not be any MOPs blogs for awhile.  I need to spend this next month starting on newsletters for the year, as well as finishing my homeschool planning.  Several of us have the opportunity to travel to Texas for the MOPs convention in August.  (If you think about it, please pray for safe travels, as well as that it will be an enriching and bonding time!)  Later in August, moms will be put into their friendship groups for the year.  You should hear from your new friendship group leader by the first part of September.  Our first MOPs meeting of the new year is September 13th.

By the way, at the moment we actually have some openings for MOPS for the fall.  So, if you have a friend that you have always wanted to invite to MOPs, now is your opportunity.  If a friend is interested, please e-mail her contact information (including her e-mail)  to firstfreemops@gmail.com  She will be contacted.
