Holiday Happenings

This time of year is chalked full of activities and events that you and your family can attend to celebrate Christmas.   However, when you are a mother of a preschooler, it is difficult enough to keep up with what is going on IN your house.  So I am going to provide you with some info on what is going on OUT of your house this Christmas season.   As a disclaimer, I am providing info only, not an endorsement.   If you have a “Holiday Happening” that you would like to share, send an email  or leave a comment and I will update this list.

Thursday, December 9

7:30 p.m. – “A Christmas Carol” – McDonald Theatre, 51st and Huntington Ave – $10 adults / $7.50 seniors/$5 students – http://theatre.nebrwesleyan.edu

Friday, December 10

6pm-9pm – Holidays in the Haymarket – Historic Haymarket, 7th & P Streets – Experience the festive ambiance in the Haymarket. See Santa strolling the street, enjoy entertainment by the Creamery Building and enjoy a horse and carriage ride. For more information, 435-7496.

7 pm – Handel’s Messiah Performance (Choral & Orchestra) – College View Church, 48th & Prescott – Free Admission – Doors open at 6pm.

7 pm  -“Behold the Lamb” tour featuring Andrew Peterson and friends – Berean Church, 6400 South 70th Street – Tickets start at $15/person – http://lincolnberean.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=296598

The first half of the set features Andrew and his incredibly talented friends playing their own original individual music.  Then the 2nd half features his “Behold the Lamb” musical which takes the listener through the story of the Old Testament hope for a Messiah and concludes with His coming – you will not look at the Christmas story the same way again.

7pm-  “Christmas with Calvary-A Christmas Tale” –  Calvary Community Church, 4400 N First St. –  Interpretation for hearing impaired. Free Admission

Saturday, December 11

8am-11am – Breakfast with Santa – Candy Factory Atrium, 8th & ‘P’ St. –  Meet Santa and enjoy delicious food provided by Lazlo’s. Admission: $5/Person; Free/Children 3 & under. Ticket locations: Check your local businesses. DLA offices, From Nebraska, Burlington Antiques, Buzzard Billy’s, Brewsky’s, The Mill or call the Haymarket office – 435-7596.

8am-12pm – St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, 555 S 70th St. –  Free family photo with Santa, petting real reindeer, sitting in Santa’s sleigh, eating a hot breakfast buffet, doing Christmas crafts, meeting Saint Elizabeth, listening to carolers, watching puppet shows, learning more about how to stay healthy, and/or going inside a real operating room with a surgical robot. 3pm, 7pm – Lincoln Continentals men’s a capella chorus – Trinity United Methodist Church, 56th and Pine Lake – Free concert – Free will donations benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln’s Backpack Program

3pm – A Nebraska Brass Christmas – SouthPointe Christian Church, 7010 Helen Witt Drive – $15 adults; $12 seniors; students free
